How to read an IP lookup
The location fields estimate where an address is used or where its traffic enters a provider network. The network field names the organization associated with the address, while the ASN identifies the autonomous system announcing routes for that network. Together, these fields can help distinguish a home provider, mobile carrier, hosting company, business network, or VPN service.
A result can be useful when checking a server log, reviewing a sign-in alert, confirming a VPN exit, or investigating an unfamiliar network route. It does not establish who used the address at a particular time. Dynamic assignments, shared connections, proxies, and mobile gateways can place many users behind the same public address.
Why IP location is approximate
IP databases combine address registrations, routing observations, and provider information. They usually identify a country correctly, but city and region results can point to a provider office, network gateway, or nearby service area. Database updates can also lag behind a provider moving an address range.
This lookup does not request browser location permission and does not read GPS data. Treat the map as a broad network estimate. It should not be used to identify a home, workplace, or current device position.
Checking a VPN, proxy, or server address
A VPN address should usually resolve to the VPN company, its hosting partner, or the selected exit region. Some providers lease infrastructure, so the network organization can differ from the name shown in the VPN application. Compare the country, ASN, and registered network before deciding that a result is unexpected.
For ownership and allocation details, continue to the IP WHOIS lookup. That record can show the registered range and regional registry even when the geolocation database has limited city or ISP information.
